Governance Intelligence - Leadership in Organisations
Organisational Leadership is one (1) of the seven (7) Domains of governance identified within the Enterprise Care Governance Intelligence® Model. Leadership is concerned with the ability of people to be strategic, collaborative, inspirational and achievement-orientated.
This Governance Intelligence® publication is an introduction to the concept and reality of Leadership in a governance setting.
The publication focuses on:
1. Organisational Leadership - an overview of organisational leadership begins the publication - its history and different approaches. The importance of leadership is examined together with its impact on performance. In particular, a review is made of how the value of leadership is greatly enhanced in more complex and dynamic environments. This is of significance as many leaders see themselves as technical experts or silo managers when, in fact, their role should be so much broader. To some this is an exciting realisation, others will find it an 'unknown’ that they will be concerned about and need to be developed through.
2. Leadership Development -Before any development can commence, leaders - both as individuals and as collective leadership teams - need to know their strengths and weaknesses. As a result, all development should start with a diagnostic phase. Different diagnostic methodologies are presented, together with an outline of their most useful applications.
3. Leadership Model - The final section of the publication outlines the Leadership Model that is recognised by EnterpriseCare. This model is based on the work of Professor Harry Schroder (Schroder, 1989) in identifying the difference between mediocre and high-performing leaders.
Numerous activities are included for the reader to understand and improve the leadership within their own organisation.
This publication ensures that the significance of the Leadership Domain is fully appreciated and the appropriate governance practice is pursued by the organisation. Having completed the publication, the reader should have confidence in positively influencing the desirable leadership for their organisation.
